The 13 Minute Attachment
A couple of weeks ago I had just gotten home from work at about 8pm, and a friend of mine calls me up.
He had an extra ticket to see the Killers, a band that I love.
The only problem was that the concert started at 9, it was a 20-25 minute drive to get there (not to mention parking), I hadn’t showered, and I had no hair on at the time!
At this point I started thinking how much of a disaster this attachment was going to be due to the fact that ever time I have rushed an attachment I have started to sweat and the end result wasn’t pretty. I stayed calm, took a deep breath, and jumped in the shower. As soon as I got out I quickly prepped the back of the unit with tape, carefully lined it up and marked my glue line, applied two coats of glue with the help of a hair dryer to speed up the process, and in the blink of an eye I was done!
I had to pay attention to the time so I wouldn’t miss the concert. It took me just about 13 minutes from the time I started cutting tape until I had the unit firmly attached. And much to my amazement, I was able to control my sweating AND I got the unit on perfectly straight. Not bad for a world record (for me) attachment. Here are a couple of pictures of the final result after styling-
Wow. That hair looks really good. With the scalp exposure at the crown, is it possible for someone to see the lace, if they’re up close like they’d be on a crowded bus or train?
Could it happen? Only if the knots aren’t bleached or something else is “off”, and even then someone would have to be VERY close and actually trying to find something for them to really notice.
To be honest with you I don’t worry about the crown area. The knots aren’t even bleached in that area on most of the units I have had.
The fact of the matter is that in the eyes of the hairwearer, the hair is never really 100%. You will always be able to pick out flaws if you know it is there. The thing about it is that it doesn’t have to be anywhere close to 100% for people to think that it’s your real hair. With a full cap especially. You can get a away with a lot if you don’t have to worry about blending and color matching, etc. like you do with a partial.
I even have a couple of full caps that are way too thick that I would never even step foot out of the house in, but I could probably even wear those without people giving me a second glance.
Bottom line- a hairpiece, even a well made and well attached full cap will never be 100% undetectable 100% of the time with 100% of people. There is almost always something that could potentially give it away. The thing you have to keep in mind is that even though it will likely never be perfect, you will probably be the only one who ever sees it. Even people who know I wear swear I am crazy when I ask their opinion about a flaw that to me might be obvious.
Dude, I am seriously starting to think you are just a guy with a full head of hair who is actually trolling all of us!
I wouldn’t suspect a thing if I saw you in the street, I’d probably curse you for having such a great head of hair and not having to deal with hair loss, haha!
Appreciate all the effort you put into the site, it is all very helpful, so keep it up.
Quite an illusion huh?
You wouldn’t believe how little of my own hair I actually have left. I’m going to post some pics soon showing how far gone my hair is. Maybe I will do some side-by-side shots with and without hair to show the difference.
