About JRob

Hello everyone,  thanks for watching. My name is Jon Robertson, but my friends call me Jrob.  I want to introduce you to something that has the potential to change your life.

But before I do, let me share a little bit about myself.

When I was in my late teens, I began to lose my hair. When I first started to notice that my hair thinning it wasn’t a big deal to me, but as time went on, I found myself having to come to terms with the fact that it wouldn’t be long before I was going to be, well, BALD.

It wasn’t long before my hair loss was at a point where I was no longer able to have any sort of hair “style”, so I said goodbye to my hairdresser and purchased a set of hair clippers, and began cutting my own hair very, very short.

At first I was self conscious about having cut nearly all of my hair off. Fortunately, this was right around the time when the shaved head look was becoming popular for men, so the transition wasn’t bad.

I remember the day I cut my hair for the first time, I was a nervous wreck. I wore a hat to work, and put it back on immediately after my shift was over. I went out with some coworkers for a drink later that night, and one of the girls I worked with grabbed my hat, pulled it off, and made a comment about my new “style”, in front of several of my friends, and a couple of people I had just met that night.

Much to my amazement, everyone seemed to like my new look. And you can imagine how relieved I was when a girl I had just met that night came up to me later that evening and seemed to be VERY interested in me. At that point, I realized that being bald wasn’t the end of the world.

The next couple of years I kept my hair cut very short. It still bothered me that I wasn’t able to have a the option of growing my hair out and styling it like I used to, so I decided to look into alternatives.

The first thing I did was set up a consultation with a hair transplant clinic. The representative explained to me that with my advanced level of hair loss, I didn’t have sufficient “donor” hair to be able to create a youthful looking head of hair via surgery. That day the doctor wrote me a prescription for a drug that could potentially stop my hair loss and possibly re grow some of my hair.

I took the medication for several months and did see some hair regrowth, but not  to the point that it was worth the expense, so I stopped using the medication, and eventually decided that if there was no practical way to reverse my hair loss, I might as well take the final step and shave my head completely.

For the next eight years or so, I shaved my head. And to be honest, it wasn’t all that bad. I was lucky, in that my head shape lent itself well to the shaved look.

The years went by, and for the most part I forgot about my hair (or lack thereof). I would simply shave my head with an electric razor every day or two, and went on with my life. Other than the passing thought of how nice it would be to have a head of hair that would allow me to change my look, I didn’t think about it often.

Until one day.

I was sitting in the office of a real estate agent I know. We were waiting on his assistant to make some copies, and as we were talking he pulled a driver’s license out of his wallet and handed it to me. I looked at the picture of the man on the front, and wondered why he had handed me someone else’s license.

“That’s me” he said, in a matter of fact tone of voice.

“That’s YOU??” I replied.

“Yes, that’s me. I started losing my hair years ago, and as time went by I became more and more self conscious about it. I tried every drug and “magic potion” out there, but nothing seemed to help me regrow my hair”

“That’s when I saw a commercial on tv for one of those non-surgical hair replacement centers, and I decided to check it out. I ended up giving it a try, and the rest is history”

“Non-surgical?? What exactly does that mean?’ I asked.

“Basically, it’s a wig. It is made with real human hair that is attached to a base material that is then attached to my head” I can style it however I want. I can swim, play sports, basically anything I could do with my own growing hair”

I was shocked. A WIG??? But wigs are supposed to be OBVIOUS. I never knew that a WIG could actually look like a real head of hair!

I asked my friend a few more questions about this fascinating new discovery, and immediately went home and started to do some research.

Although my friend was very happy with his relationship with the hair replacement salon where he is a customer, I found that there were a lot of people who had felt they had been taken advantage of by many of these hair replacement companies. More importantly, I discovered that there was a growing community of men who were taking matters into their own hands, buying wigs, or “hair replacement systems” from a handful of internet companies for a tiny fraction of the cost that the large chain salons were charging.

I started reading some of the posts from members of internet message boards who discussed everything from how to design a custom base, to how to properly attach, clean, and maintain a hair system without the hassle and expense of going through a salon. I browsed through  pictures of  men who, to anyone on the street, looked like they had a normal, healthy, natural head of hair. I was still a bit skeptical, but with a few more weeks of research  I decided to take the plunge and placed my first order.

As I patiently waited for my first order to arrive, I was faced with my first hair wearing challenge- I had to grow out my existing hair.

The idea was to transition into wearing a hairpiece without anyone realizing what I had done. In order to do this I had to wear a hat whenever I was out in public for the next two months, until my order arrived and my hair was long enough to allow the hairpiece hair to blend in properly.

Those two months of constantly wearing a hat were a hassle, and I even had a girl pull it off one night about 6 weeks after I started growing my hair. That was the first time anyone had seen me with the “horseshoe” of hair in a long, long time.
